What Is The Neti Pot?

The Neti Pot

The Neti Pot is a ceramic or plastic pot that looks similar to a tea pot and originally comes from the Ayurvedic/yoga medical tradition. It has been used for thousands of years in ayurvedic medicine to alleviate sinus and allergy problems and may bring relief of sinus symptoms without the use of medications. NETI POT

The Neti Pot cleanses and protects the nasal passages, against illness and can be used to treat a variety of symptoms including sinus irritation from allergies and environmental irritants as well as  alleviating congestion, facial pain and pressure.

The Neti pot works by thinning out mucus, keeping the nasal passage moist, clean, and healthy. Research has shown it to be an effective way to relieve sinus symptoms. Using the Neti pot can be as routine as brushing and flossing your teeth.

I have included a short video presentation below to show you exactly how to use The Neti Pot.

  • Remove excess mucus due to congestion
  • Rids nostrils of  allergens
  • Cleanse the nasal membranes of dust, smoke, or other airborne contaminants
  • Relieves nasal dryness
  • Improves flow of breath

 Types of Neti Pots

  • Ceramic-Made with food-grade glaze and certified lead free is my personal favorite (but obviously they are fragile)
  • plastic- I would not use plastic  (same reasons as plastic water bottles)
  • copper-  My second choice and some oriental schools say it has some medicinal advantages but also sharp edges and eventually will break.
  • stainless steel- Sometimes can rust if not cleaned properly

Does the Neti Pot Really Work?

If you’re one of the millions of people dealing with sinus problems, you know how miserable facial pain and clogged nasal passages can be. I have used the Neti pot for years myself and have found it to be very effective. I highly recommend trying it for yourself, and see if you get the relief I did- it has also been recommend by ear, nose, and throat surgeons around the world.

Tom, the Neti pot is something I’ve heard about before, but something I’ve never tried. After reading your article I may have to give it a go…Keep on coming with this great info.

Thanks Phil- Yes the Paleo diet has most all the components of a healthy style of eating, one I contend we should look into more closely!

    All the Best-Tom

Hi Tom- I had sinus problems for years, the runny nose, the stuffy nose, the infections, the pain and pressure. My girlfriend told me about the Neti Pot and I tried it, it changed my life. I don’t know how, but these flushes cured me of a plight that plagued me for years. I’m now to the point that I don’t need to use the Neti Pot on a regular basis but only when I feel the need at certain times of the year. As an example when dealing with leaf mold, when I rake leaves. Theses flushes are great and they really do work. I tell everyone I know about how the Neti Pot can relieve sinus problems.

Hi Mark- I agree with you completely. For those unfamiliar with the Neti Pot, once they try it they will be surprised and relieved how it will completely remove congestion and allow them to breath more easily. I use it on a regular basis!

Hello Tom – When I saw your article on the Neti pot, it made me think of the way I clean my nasal passages using the syringe which contains a saline to flush the residue inside. The Neti Pot seems to be a more practical approach to helping children who have a tendency to catch colds and virus infections in the nasal passage to stay healthy. It proves to be useful and my wife administers it to our son when he starts getting congested. Nice to see that it can be good for daily use for adults and I will start using it again. The Neti pot is not common to see in Thailand but it will be for our family!

Hi Tinnakon- I am happy to see that you find this article useful and are now using the Neti Pot again. Most people don’t realize that with daily use its a great way to stave off potential nasal infections.
